We recently visited California Adventure for the very first time, and we absolutely loved it. We watched a couple of Disney documentaries over the holidays, and two particular things about this park stood out. The first was the World of Color show and the second was Cars Land. Continue reading for our review of both the show and land. I’ll also review the park overall.
If you’ve been to any of the Disney parks, you know that they put together some amazing shows. World of Color did not disappoint. This nightly show is about 22 minutes long and features colorful scenes from beloved films. Ryan and I had seen a preview that included WALL-E, which is Ryan’s absolute favorite Pixar/Disney film. It also included scenes from the Little Mermaid, Up, Aladdin, and more. The show is incredible.
This is a water fountain show, much like what you’d see at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. The difference is that this one is very colorful and includes projections. I wasn’t sure how the projections would look on water, but the quality was just as good as the castle projections. You can get a FASTPASS for viewing, purchase a dining package, or walk up before the show to grab a spot. Finding a spot can be challenging depending on crowd levels.
I was really excited about Cars Land, and it did not disappoint. Disney did a fantastic job of theming this section of the park. Due to the weather, I wasn’t sure if we’d be able to ride Radiator Springs Racers. Ryan and I got lucky with this one. The rain stopped long enough for us to grab a FASTPASS and experience this fantastic ride. This is probably one of my favorite rides ever. It was so enjoyable. I felt like we were in Radiator Springs.
The technology behind the ride is very similar to Disney World’s Test Track. As you prep for a big race, you meet many of the characters from the movies. The ride ends with some friendly competition between your car and another car full of riders. We highly recommend this one!
The two of us didn’t get to spend nearly as much time at California Adventure as we would have liked. We did ride Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and Pixar Pal-A-Around. I found both us those terrifying, but Ryan really enjoyed them. There’s a great selection of rides, and we can’t wait to go back to ride them all.
We explored several shops, which were all great and featured some unique Pixar items. The Starbucks is great, even right before they close. We were freezing and needed something hot to warm us up. Our drink was made correctly and quickly. We did not have an opportunity to try food from any of the restaurants or booths. Had it not rained all day, more food would have been consumed. Lastly, the theming was great throughout the park. This park is like a mix of Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and a fair. It was really neat.
