If I’m completely honest, I don’t know why I even bother setting home project goals. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about goals. I just always seem to have more unfinished home projects than completed ones. I started 2019 ahead of where I wanted to be…now I’m behind. Why? Life happens and it’s exhausting.
Our 2019 goals included finishing the laundry room, completing the front landscaping, adding an outdoor living space, replacing our carpeted stairs, and a bunch of smaller projects. Where are we right now?
Well the laundry room is not much closer to completion. We still haven’t installed the rest of the trim, which is actually a pretty easy project. We also haven’t installed the subway tile. I just keep going back and forth whether we should install it ourselves. We need to attend a free class and just get it done. At least the ceiling is pretty much done.
Front Landscaping & Lighting
We have completed quite a bit of landscaping, it just wasn’t in the front. We had some plants that needed to be transplanted, so that was priority. The front landscaping is only missing one section of plants. We’ve got to adjust an existing retaining wall before we plant the phlox. We had a few plants die, and we replaced those. Ryan and I added a new layer of mulch to everything too. This front landscaping will be done in September or October.
Our original goal was to install some landscape lighting, but I’m just not sure that will happen this year. One of our other projects exceeded the budget significantly. We’ll probably just hold off until next year.
Outdoor Living Space
A two-tier deck was installed towards the end of May. The deck is fantastic, and I’m super glad we completed this project. We’ve got a few smaller projects to complete involving the deck, but we will accomplish those by the end of October. Ryan and I also need to furnish the deck. I can’t believe how expensive patio furniture is! I’m just super pleased this large project is done.
The staircase just isn’t happening this year. We just don’t have the funds nor the time. My hope is that we can replace the carpet in March of 2020.
We finally finished the living room, and I couldn’t be happier with the final result. If you missed the post, you can check it out here.
I repainted our bedroom in May, and all that’s left is trim work. We also need to purchase a new nightstand for Ryan. We’ll get it to it eventually.
After putting this together, I guess it isn’t too bad. We have accomplished some things, and we will finish quite a few projects by the end of the year. Patience has never been my strength. How are your home projects coming along? I’d love to hear from you.
