International Flower & Garden Festival at Epcot

As promised, I wanted to share the highlights from our short trip to Disney World. The main attraction this visit was the International Flower & Garden Festival at Epcot. This is an annual event in the spring and worth the visit. If you’re excited after reading this, it’s not too late to book a trip. The festival ends on June 3rd.

This festival is a true celebration of all things springs. I highly recommend getting to the park at open to enjoy the many displays, without the crowds. The Disney-themed topiary displays are throughout the park, including Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse. I encourage you to visit the Butterfly Garden exhibit area too. It was neat to walk through. There are a variety of tours available, including an English Tea Garden. We didn’t officially take a tour, but we walked through some of the tour areas.

If flowers aren’t your thing, I’ve got great news for you! Part of this unique experience is enjoying the many outdoor kitchens throughout the park. Ryan and I enjoyed sampling a variety of dishes, including desserts and specialty drinks. The food was delicious to my surprise. You just never know what you’re going to get at some of these sorts of things. I love that Disney provides a Festival Passport that includes all of the available dishes. My big tip is to come with money! The food isn’t particularly cheap, and the drinks are just expensive. I also recommend using your magic band to pay at each kiosk. In my opinion, it’s more secure and faster. If you love food or trying new things, I highly recommend visiting Epcot during this event.

You might be wondering what dishes we sampled. Don’t worry, I’ve got them all outlined below.

  • Roasted Cauliflower with Wild Rice Pilaf & Sunflower Brittle
  • Spicy Hot Dog with Pineapple Chutney
  • Frozen Desert Violet Lemonade
  • Grilled Street Corn with a Garlic Spread
  • Crab & Cheese Wontons
  • Potato Pancakes with Apple Sauce
  • Ham & Gruyere Cheese on Pretzel Bread
  • Walnut Honey Baklava
  • Maple Popcorn Shake

There were several dishes I would have liked to have tried, but we were just so full. I liked nearly everything. I didn’t like the pancakes covered in applesauce. The applesauce was good but too strong with the pancakes. I think the only complaint Ryan had was that his hot dog bun fell apart instantly. I suspect they steam the buns.

We spent the majority of our time at Epcot. There was just so much to do in addition to the rides. We did spend a couple of evenings at Magic Kingdom. If you love Dole Whip like me, I encourage you to try the new Hei Hei Dole Whip at Aloha Isle. This funky treat was so good!

Since we stayed at The Contemporary Hotel, we got early admission into Magic Kingdom one morning. I definitely recommend getting to the park before it opens. We were able to get on several rides faster, and we got to enjoy the opening experience. Mickey opens the park with the help of Cinderella’s fairy godmother. It’s cute.
