Styling a Floating Nightstand

If space is an issue in the bedroom, I recommend installing floating shelves to act as a nightstand or side table. They generally take up less space than your traditional furniture piece and provide adequate space for bedside items. The Lloyd Wall Shelf and Linear Wall-Mounted Nightstand from Room & Board were perfect for our bedroom.

Once you’ve found the perfect shelf or floating nightstand for your space, it’s time to decorate it. You may be wondering how to best style it. My best advice is to keep it simple. Some of my favorite styling items include: a stack of books, a plant, a tray or bowl for small items (jewelry, hair ties, keys, etc.), and a candle. You may want to leave some space for a glass of water or anything else you’d need at night.

Be careful not to overwhelm the shelf. I prefer a two tier shelf for that reason. We have a single shelf in the guest room, but I only keep a few essentials on it for guests. A full size nightstand or side table is best for large lamps. A small task lamp or accent light is a good choice if you need some additional light.

Artwork is another great addition. You could lean a piece against the wall or simply hang it above. I’m currently trying to decide which piece to hang above my shelf, which is a lot like the one below.

This solution is perfect for small spaces, cramped corners, and close doorways. Would a shelf or floating nighstand work in your space? I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to have my own space again next to the bed. It’s nice not reaching over to my husband’s side of the bed. So gather some items and stylize your new shelf now. Until next time, have a great week!
